GREETINGS FROM THE OFFICE OF THE RECTOR

A NEW DAWN OF RESTORATION

I bring you warm greetings on behalf of the Board of Governors, Management and the entire staff of Baptist College of Theology, Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria. I appreciate the grace of God and the opportunity to resume as the 5th substantive Rector of the College on July 1, 2020. It is nothing but God’s divine doing, and He alone deserves all the glory.  This brief note is released to all the stakeholders of Baptist College of Theology, Oyo, at a time like this in the history of the College. I must confess that indeed God rules over the affairs of his people and that contributed to my being here as the new Rector of our cherished institution.

For several reasons, my formal assumption of duty on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 came to me as a landmark event in my life, family and BCT, Oyo. It was a grand ceremony that celebrated the achievements of the immediate past administration of Rev. Dr. Olusayo B. Oladejo and Rev. Dr. S. F. Kehinde. I was warmly welcomed as the new Rector by the College community with representatives of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, statutory supporting conferences,  the Board of Governors, and the College Management led by Rev. Dr. S. F. Kehinde (the then Acting Rector) and the Board Chairman, Surveyor Akin Oyegbola, FNIS.  I appreciate the entire staff, students and the Alumni for the cordial atmosphere recorded at the welcome service. On behalf of the Management, I welcome you to this era of restoration. We earnestly solicit your prayers and goodwill for a successful tenure.

The Management is indeed grateful to God, our esteemed students and stakeholders for the unflinching support given to the College in achieving a successful 2019/2020 academic session, 2020/2021 academic session and the current 2021/2022 academic session despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. Specifically, I sincerely appreciate you for adjusting to the blended learning model adopted for the 2020/2021 academic activities and many other sacrifices made for fulfilling and successful academic sessions. Since my resumption of duty, Your comportment depicts your maturity and cooperation as one family of Baptist College of Theology, Oyo. I am grateful for the support of everyone, especially the former Registrar, Mr Yomi Salako, with whom we started together with the administrative paddling.  We are grateful to God for the divine wisdom and enablement that God gives daily to sail through successfully with all the management members and staff. Thank you all.

I want to use this medium to restate my commitment, as I did during the welcome service and induction, that my administration will build on the solid foundations established by the previous leadership of the College. We have started work already and would not relent in the fulfilment of the visions and goals already set and documented. I am open to God for direction for innovations. I want to use this opportunity to notify staff and students that your welfare would be at the forefront of every policy initiated by my administration. At the same time, I look forward to more commitment to duty and doing the expected as assigned to everyone. We solicit the cooperation of our indispensable stakeholders. We are aware that socio-economic challenges are everywhere; God will continue to surprise us with significant provisions.

Furthermore, I would like to inform you that there are ongoing efforts to revamp the ICT base of the College as well as the automation of the College Library; this would be given concerted attention. I also promise that the BCT, Oyo platforms will be more user-friendly, and we will ensure regular interaction on our different platforms. I urge you to always feel free to communicate appropriately on any issue. I promised to do my best to discharge my duties as the Rector of the College. Thank you, and God bless you.

The Baptist College, Oyo, which was previously named Joint Baptist Pastors School, was founded on September 30, 1977. The vision for establishing the institution at the onset was to train Pastors who would meet the yearnings of hundreds of churches that were springing up in towns and villages of the then Western States of Nigeria.

In the year 2000, the school metamorphosed into a degree awarding institution and was renamed Baptist College of Theology, Oyo. The Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) is the proprietor of the College, while the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention is the visitor to the College.
